Fuck Yeah Hyperreal
Intro: Hyper-real Religions for Hyper-real Times

Fuck Yeah Hyperreal is a spinoff from my interest in pop-culture-based belief systems. The term ‘Hyper-real Religion’ was coined by the sociologist Adam Possamai to describe these offshoots of belief into the ground of modern (and of course postmodern) culture.

If you’ve heard of the Church of All Worlds, Chaos mages working with Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos, Jediism or people following the faith of the Na’Vi from Avatar, you’ve already encountered hyperreal belief.

I’ve been thinking about writing about this for some time - some of my thoughts on the matter have appeared in my Guttershaman series (here & here) and at James Curcio’s Modern Mythology blog (here and here).

I’ll be dropping news items on the topic here when they’re not quite enough for a full write-up.
